Each month, we introduce and discuss a new monthly. The theme is spoken about during morning assembly and our students also complete a culminating activity related to the themes on a monthly basis.

The theme for the month of December is Charity.

Almighty Allah talks about the beauty of giving charity in the Quran. He says;

Those who give their wealth by night and day, secretly and openly, they shall have their reward near their Lord and they will have no fear nor will they grieve. (Sura al-Baqarah, no.2, verse 274)

One of the best acts in Islam is to give for the sake of Allah. It awakens the soul, triggers concern for the well-being of others, and results in countless rewards for a believer. It is how society moves forward, with members caring for and supporting one another. Such a society is blessed by Allah.

Charity is not just giving money to the needy. It is to give of anything that you have, be it your time, your talent, the comfort you can give others, etc. Whatever human beings are blessed with is a trust from Allah and others have a right in it also. Giving others balances out the resources and needs in society and helps to create a just and equitable society.

The Ahlul Bayt (a) taught us that there is joy in giving. They gave with respect for the needy, saying that it was the receiver who was favouring them by giving them an opportunity to give. They gave even when they themselves had nothing, because they preferred the comfort of others over their own. They showed us through their examples that charity should be selfless and concerned only with serving the creatures of Allah.
