Each month, we introduce and discuss a new monthly. Both our Director of Religious Affairs, Syed Asad Jafri,  and our principal, Mr. Boccia speak to the theme during morning assembly. Our students also complete a culminating activity related to the themes.

The theme for the month of October is Hospitality.

In the Qur’an, Allah (swt) presents a beautiful equation for us to reach a high level of righteousness.  In Surah Ale Imran, verse 92:

لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ ۚ وَمَا تُنْفِقُوا مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِهِ عَلِيمٌ

“You will never attain piety until you spend out of what you hold dear, and whatever you may spend of anything, Allah indeed knows it.”

Hospitality is a revered concept in Islam largely due to the fact that it steers one towards selflessness.  To welcome someone in your home or to make someone feel like they are not alone helps to break the shackles of today’s individualism.  Islam has always promoted and preached the importance of the community and it is through acts of hospitality that these communal bonds are formed and strengthened.

We ask Allah (swt) to open our hearts and doors for our brothers and sisters in faith.
