Our high school students in grades 9 to 12 participated in a ghusl and kaffan seminar on October 10.  The day began with them learning about the washing and shrouding of a deceased led by dedicated volunteers of the Islamic Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat (ISIJ) of Toronto.

The students then went to the cemetery at the Al Hussain Foundation in Markham, where they were led by Syed Asad Jafri, our Director of Religious Affairs, on the process of burial.  Syed Asad reminded them of the realities of this fleeting world and the beauty of the Mercy of Allah (swt) in the next world.  Before salaah, the students were given some time to make their way to the various graves of their loved ones pouring water and reciting fatiha. After salaah there was a collective recitation of Surah Yasin for the Marhumeen.

The day culminated with a beautiful debrief and discussion back at the school led by Syed Asad. Students expressed the calmness and serenity they felt at the graveyard and shared some eye-opening moments they experienced.
