We are thrilled to share the exceptional achievements of our High School Robotics Club at the Annual Engineering Robotics Competition hosted by Ontario Tech University! πŸ†πŸŽ‰

The Annual Engineering Robotics Competition hosted by Ontario Tech University stands as a premier showcase for aspiring young engineers and innovators. This dynamic event brings together high school robotics teams from various institutions, providing a platform for students to apply their knowledge in a challenging and competitive setting. Participants engage in designing, building, and programming robots to navigate complex tasks, pushing the boundaries of their technical skills and collaborative abilities. The competition not only fosters a spirit of innovation but also encourages sportsmanship and teamwork. With a focus on excellence and creativity, this annual gathering serves as a pivotal opportunity for students to apply classroom learning to real-world engineering challenges, setting the stage for future leaders in the field.

In this competition, our students drove the intricate processes of designing, building, and programming their robots, and competed among 46 teams from all over the GTA that all gathered at the Ontario Tech University campus on Saturday, November 25th, 2023.

Our school proudly sent two exemplary teams to the event, showcasing the talent and dedication of our students in the field of robotics.

These two teams were brought together and further strengthened by the passion and expertise of our student and teacher leaders. They consistently attended daily meetings, worked on the robots during personal hours, and devoted their free time to refining their creations with unwavering commitment. Under the guidance of our dedicated student club leaders, as well as the invaluable coordination of our teachers, each team demonstrated exceptional skills and teamwork.

The all-girls team (team 27) achieved an impressive 5th place out of 46 teams. Their outstanding technical excellence and innovative robot design captured the attention of Dr. Aaron Yurkewich, ultimately earning them the prestigious Best Design Award.

Our second team, team 45, secured a commendable 9th place out of 46 teams. This outstanding team showcased exceptional sportsmanship in a challenging scenario, where a tie for the 8th spot occurred. Despite the rules entitling them to advance to the finals, they selflessly opted for a final match, providing the younger students of the other team another opportunity. This ethical decision earned recognition from the competition staff, resulting in our students receiving the well-deserved Sportsmanship award.

A heartfelt acknowledgment to the entire Robotics Club, including our students, mentors, and coordinators, for their hard work. This competition marked a significant milestone as the first robotics competition our school participated in, making these victories even more memorable.
