The students of As-Sadiq Islamic School eagerly embraced the spirit of innovation and learning as they enthusiastically participated in the global movement known as the Hour of Code from December 4th to 10th, 2023. During this engaging week, students delved into the world of coding, exploring various programming languages and problem-solving exercises.

With a focus on fostering computational thinking and digital literacy, the students navigated through interactive coding challenges and collaborative tasks that allowed students to showcase their creativity and logical reasoning.

What did some of our classes do?

Montessori and Primary classes

Our Montessori and primary classes learned how to code with Bee-Bots. Some of the students even became Robots and Coders, where the Robots had to follow the Coders instructions.

Grade 3B did an unplugged coding activity, where we had treasure hiders and treasure finders! The treasure hider hid some treasure (a lollipop) and wrote directions (a code) to find the treasure. The treasure finder then came in and followed the directions, if there were bugs in the code along the way, the treasure hider helped fix the directions, so that the finder could be successful!

Grade six

Our grade six students learned how to code using Ozobots. They had to use colour coding to code their Ozobots to do certain actions.

Grade seven

The grade seven students had to complete tasks using block coding to create codes of their own on a website called code.org.

Grade 10 and High School

Our Grade 10 High School students were asked to complete and/or test a python code of the quadratic formula.

As-Sadiq Islamic School’s Hour of Code initiative not only provided a platform for students to develop essential coding skills, but also emphasized the importance of technology in our rapidly advancing world. The event served as a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the digital age. Through their active participation in the Hour of Code, our students celebrated the joy of learning and left a lasting mark on the global coding community.
